Topography

The Municipality’s topography is characterized by extensive mountain ranges. At the northwestern portion are mountains with lowland lying within the southeastern portion adjoining the sea.

 Elevation

Cagwait elevation ranges from zero level to 187 meters above sea level (masl). About two fifths which are below 100 masl and three fifths are above 100 masl.

About 2,300 hectares or 10.70 % to the total land area have slopes level to very gently sloping; 2,700 hectares or 12.60 % are moderately sloping to rolling; 6,200 hectares or 29.00 % are rolling to hilly; 6,057 hectares or 28.30% are steep hills and mountains; and 4,153 hectares or 19.40 % are very steep hills and mountains.

HYDROLOGY

The Municipality has potential rivers that can be tapped for agricultural purposes (e.g. irrigation and potable water system) that are located in the Barangays of Bacolod, Poblacion, Aras-asan, Bitaugan West, Unidad, Bitaugan East and Tawagan respectively.

Existing irrigation facilities are being utilized by the Riceland farmers particularly from the rivers of Tagmalinao and Bitaugan that enabled them to plant rice twice a year.

The type of soil in the Municipality ranges from Bantog clay loam (82%) and Manuel Clay loam (18%).
